Five potential candidates to replace Steven Pressley at Carlisle United

Carlisle United are searching for a new manager after sacking Steven Pressley yesterday. Here are five potential candidates for the job-

Michael Bridges- The former Sunderland, Leeds United and Hull City striker has emerged as one of the front runners for the Cumbrians’ position. He had two spells as a player for Carlisle and is looking to get into management.

Gavin Skelton- He has been Carlisle’s assistant manager since June and is another contender. The 38-year-old started his playing career with the Blues. He has previously been the manager of Workington and worked as a coach in Scotland with Queen of the South.

Andy Welsh- The former midfielder is another ex-Cumbrians player playing linked with the job. He is currently the manager of non-league side Osset United and is being tipped for a bright future in management. Could he make the step up to League Two?

Danny Grainger- Could Carlisle turn to another familiar face to turn their season around? Grainger, who is from Cumbria, spent five years at Brunton Park and made just under 200 appearances for the fourth tier outfit before leaving at the end of last season.

Ian Evatt- The 37-year-old is doing an impressive job in the National League at Barrow and is an option for Carlisle. The ex-Derby County, QPR, Blackpool and Chesterfield defender was linked with AFC Fylde recently but decided to stay at Holker Street. A move to the Football League could turn his head though.
