Town striker Kayden Jackson says he’s concentrating on football and ignoring speculation regarding his future.

The 26-year-old, the Blues’ joint-top scorer in 2019/20 with 11 goals alongside James Norwood, recently turned down the offer of a new contract at Portman Road.

However, Jackson's current terms run to the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further season and the Blues are in no panic regarding the situation and despite the speculation are not looking to sell the Bradford-born frontman.

As previously reported, Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn showed interest in January, while Coventry City have been linked since their promotion to the Championship.

Jackson, who joined the Blues from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in August 2018, is believed to be in no hurry to depart Portman Road and says he’s leaving off-field matters to his representative.

"At the end of the day, I’m an Ipswich player and I’ve got a contract here for potentially another two years," he told iFollow Ipswich. "For me, it’s all about concentrating on the football and the season ahead.

"Whatever is going on is separate to everything. I don’t really deal too much on that side, it’s down to the agent.

“Last season was a massive disappointment for all of us. I’m just looking to improve on what I did and hopefully we can get the end result that we want.”

Reflecting on the last campaign from a personal perspective, he added: "The goals and assists [seven] that I contributed to, a lot of people would be happy with that with it ending early.

"I always think that I can improve. I feel like I should’ve had more goals, I should’ve had more assists. Obviously, that would’ve helped the team finish higher in the league.

"Regardless of the early finish, on the back of the disappointment we would’ve had that hunger. Maybe for some people it’s good to calm down the frustration we had but for me it’s just about getting back into it, whether that’s pre-season games or when the season starts.”

Meanwhile, former Town striker David McGoldrick has been named the 2019 FAI Senior Men’s International Player of the Year.

The 32-year-old, who has been capped 12 times by the Republic of Ireland, scoring once, was given the award by a media jury ahead of his Sheffield United team-mate Enda Stevens and Fleetwood’s Glenn Whelan.

Elsewhere, former Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson, 23, who was linked with the Blues among others last week, has joined Blackpool on a two-year deal with the club having an option for a further season.

TimmyH added 12:41 - Aug 6 Nothing new here...certainly doesn't lack in modesty, and feels he did well last season - personally a bit of a mixed season in my opinion. Wouldn't overly bother me if he left as long as it's not on the cheap.

This is why we struggled last year and struggled in the championship apart from Murphys freak season. until we invest in a taller target man who can either score or provide help for a 20 season striker we won't go anywhere but potentially further down! I can see from Evans' interview the 5 point/year plan has started again for the tenth season in a row so don't expect much investment either!

Such is life, not worth getting excited about, either we'll agree a new contract with him or we'll take up the extra year and then look to sell next summer I would think. Might actually motivate him a bit more if he's looking at a new deal or a move in years time.

Having Clarke Harris or someone like him will only make us better for this season. It's all ifs & buts at the min as it normally is with the town😆

Marinersnose added 14:22 - Aug 6 For a striker to be reasonably happy with his goals and assists last season is unbelievable. He's playing in a very poor league and didn't get 15-20 goals. He worked hard and was probably our best striker which is why we couldn't compete. I think some of the youngsters have more talent. Sell if the price is right. He's not as good as he thinks. More ball control with a torn jock strap

Quite happy to Let his agent sort things out, does not appear that bothered if a contract is not sorted, he will just move to the next team and the process begins again. Nowhere did I hear he wants to stay, enjoys being here etc. To me this just proves he treats being here a job not a privilege, it does not matter to him what shirt he puts on, just the size of the pay packet.

rugbytomc added 16:04 - Aug 6 Waghorn proved players have no loyalty. If Jackson goes - I hope we make a profit like we did on Waghorn. So far Jackson looks promising and I wouldn't want him to go, but he also hasn't lived up to his price tag yet. In general - I don't see how him and Norwood fit in the same team unless you move Jackson wider.

That's why the younger players get sold,it's not always the club. If a player is not 100%committed to the club what's the best thing to do?

WD7BLUE added 16:27 - Aug 6 Not sure what I am missing with many posters on here but Jackson is bang average. If we can make a profit on him let's do so and move on. He has pace but he's only quick for league 1. He seems like a nice enough chap but he's not going to fire us out of this division unless a whole host of other things also change - a proper system of play, a midfield that penetrates rather than playing ineffective keep ball and our better players stay fit.

therein61 added 18:09 - Aug 6 He needs to step up a bit if he stays but needs to be in his best position but Lambert doesn't appear to know where that is(amongst others) i feel he can be a real handful if given confidence which appears lacking from the management team on the side lines interesting to see Robson has gone to the giant of a club Blackpool i'm not saying we wanted him but if we did then it sums up our player drawing power.

Linkboy13 added 18:38 - Aug 6 Some people need to wake up and smell the coffee. Any money made from the sale of Jackson will not be fully invested except for loan deals. We could spend ten million but there's no guarantee a striker with no service is going to score twenty goals. I hope he stays despite his limitations his work ethic is very good . If he leaves i wish him the best of luck and hope he gets more appreciated than he does here.

ringwoodblue added 20:18 - Aug 6 Agreed he hasn't been a prolific goal scorer for us but he didn't have any competition last year with Norwood injured on and off and Sears coming back late in the season. Think he's worth holding onto but we need to add another striker like Clarke-Harris, not lose one.
