Blues Among Clubs Linked With King's Lynn Midfielder
Thursday, 17th Jun 2021 22:42

Town, Luton and Blackpool are reportedly battling for to sign King’s Lynn midfielder Sonny Carey.

According to The Sun, the trio are want to sign the 20-year-old with a £100,000 offer said to be enough to secure his services.

Plenty of other clubs, including AFC Bournemouth, are also claimed to have run the rule over Carey, who has a year left on his contract, during 2020/21. Bolton Wanderers and Swansea have previously been linked.

The Eastern Daily Press report that the Hatters have already had a £100,000 bid turned down and the Tangerines have a similar bid still on the table.

Carey, who plays on the right or in the centre, started his career with hometown club Norwich’s academy and joined the National League Linnets two years ago from Wroxham.

Having featured largely from the last season he became a regular in 2020/21, making 30 starts and 12 sub appearances, scoring five goals, including the winner in their FA Cup first-round victory at Port Vale in November.

This could be a very shrewd signing. I've previously lived in Norfolk and have seen him play for Kings Lynn on numerous occasions. He's a star in their team and should be more than good enough for League One. Great age and bags of potential. Let's hope we land this one 🔵⚪️

I don`t know anything about Sonny so i will take tjh276`s word for it and hope we get him. If the likes of Bournemouth want him he must pretty decent.

And this it what it's boiled down to over the last 20 years. From burning £4m on Mattio Serini to trying to outbid Blackpool on £100,000 for a Kings Lynn midfielder. FFS

Dolphinpie- our 10k signing from Chippenham Town was sold for £8m and is now playing for England at a major tournament.

A much better signing than Sereni and many other multi million pound players we have signed in the last 20 years.

groovyAsh I get your point but the Mings and Vardy's of this world are rare, whilst we've been ok in terms of Mings and even kieffer Moore, both of whom got lots of stick on here as that terrible manager MM signed them( he only kept us top 8 on no money of the league above) they are rare. Would you sign this kid and kick Lancaster out?

Why would you need to kick Lankester out, the generally recipe for success is to hold onto the talent and move on the dross

MonkeyBlue- yes it may be rare these players are like diamonds in the rough, if they don't work out though it's a low risk decision (low cost, low wages).

I didn't see enough from Lankester last season to convince me he is a serious contender in the long run. However, I'd rather a competitive low risk choice like this rather than a Huws any time

This kid has probably got some strong desire to himself with a second chance knows what it's all about, let's face it we're not signing any proven top class premier league are we, hopefully enough decent players to get the job done

BournemouthBlue. Lankester has been told he can find a new club. I was simply pointing out that if we are after this kid and he may turn out to be worthwhile we are telling the likes of Lankester and Dobra they can leave.

Look at Simon Milton, we got him from Bury Town and look at what a career he had at Ipswich.

Also look at certain Mr Vardy move from Fleetwood to Leicester. I think this is lad is worth a punt on.

You beat me to it Knightys , I immediately thought of Milton, more than useful goal return as well!

Stage 1of this Clubs rebuild : to get out of League One . Restricting factors ? 60% Financial constraints REGARDLESS of owners wealth. Therefore need to shop around for bargains . Use of performance data is not restricted to so called “ top” players …. And in fact this approach is MORE likely to unearth hidden talent rather than the needle in a haystack , word of mouth approach this Club has relied on for years .

Get out of league one , THEN we'll start to see the true effect of wealthy owners . Keep faith , this rebuild is in its infancy !

Norwich city got Ben Godfrey from York city and he's now playing for England . I would swap underachiever Lankester for Carey any day. Dobra is one of a few i would keep he showed signs he wanted to play for the club and the fact Cook put his faith in him means he going nowhere.

enough clubs been interested to indicate the lad has something, so i wont be miffed if we sign him, as has been said the lads have to start somewhere. We are NOT the ''huge''club we once were and wont be attracting big names now so people need to be realistic , .

Plenty of reason to give this lad a go. I watch Kieffer Moore with regret that we didn't do more to get him into our setup. Of course with every Tyrone Mings there's always those players that don't make the grade (struggling to think of examples, maybe someone can help me) but isn't this one of the best parts of football, the Roy of the Rovers dream being fulfilled?! I used to enjoy watching Andy Drury for us when we plucked him from non-league Luton at the time, but no way the best of our midfielders but he'd pour his heart on soul onto the pitch to prove himself. If a player could come from non-league and compete with the first team like any of those 3, I'd be pretty happy (admittedly I don't think many fans remember Drury like I do!).

Lots of clubs after him equals genuine talent. ITFC, despite current position, is a bigger club than the other ones listed so we should have nothing to fear from them. Get him in,. if PC rates him higher than what we have and are letting go, that'll do for me

But what about Harper?

slade1 added 09:05 - Jun 18
If this happens this could be a good signing or not, who knows yet but am I the only one concerned that what is happening is a reminder of the Paul Hurst era?
We seem to be in slight panic mode with near on the whole squad allowed to move on and a few new signings who may not be any better than we already have.
I hope I'm wrong but I think its all a little over the top and a dangerous game to play.

Yes Jimmy what about Harper ? He has had the medical But still not signed for us. I wonder what the delay is ?? So far we have only had 2 players in and 16 out including Loanees

Slade, that a good call and after Hurst we should be once bitten twice shy. However, Cookie is experienced, with a top management structure around him, Football people like Ashton etc with tons of quality, so i have real faith in what he's trying to do.
Last season the players, bar Norwood and KVY when he came back, all got slated as not of high enough quality for this club. Whilst wholesale change is a tad scary in principle, its what we were all crying out for so we have to see it through.
Its a bit unfortunate that the whole industry seems to have downed tools for the last week or so, but if we can get Brooks and Harper in, this lad and a few moving out, one or two of which I understand are all but done, we will all be a lot more positive.
Its a strange lull at the moment, maybe all the agents are at the Euros on a jolly :)

Got a Horrible feeling Harper's going to pull out of the deal. Still waiting for a goalkeeper, centre half and centre forward at a minimum to start the season.
