Paul Ince says 23-year-old Rangers star is ‘an exciting player’

Philippe Clement’s Rangers are having a wonderful season, and their performance against Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic at Ibrox was hugely encouraging.

Rangers played out a 3-3 draw with Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership this past Sunday.

Celtic, who are the defending Scottish champions, were 2-0 up at half time, and were heading for a win in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers stepped up their game in the second half and eventually played out a 3-3 draw.

Philippe Clement’s side are now second in the Scottish Premiership table with 74 points from 31 matches. Rangers are a point behind leaders Celtic, who have played 32 games.

One of the star players for Rangers against Celtic in the Old Firm derby was Rabbi Matondo.

The 23-year-old Wales international winger found the back of the net in the third minute of injury time. It was a stunning goal from the former Stoke City loanee.

Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo directly told what he is good at

Former Manchester United and Liverpool midfielder Paul Ince was impressed by Matondo and has directly told the Rangers winger that he is a very exciting player who can do wonders with the ball at his feet.

Ince told Matondo on talkSPORT (5:39 pm, April 9, 2024): “Great goal, great goal. I was absolutely delighted for you.

“Just looking back to, you know, your short spell at Stoke, I felt you weren’t given enough time to show your abilities.

“Would you like to think now that you are at Rangers and this goal that you scored on Sunday will now start giving you more game time for Rangers because I feel that you are an exciting player?

“I watch you play, I feel when you get on the ball, you can make things happen, and hopefully this might be the catalyst for you to get more game time at Rangers?”

Rabbi Matondo has to consider Rangers future

In my opinion, Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo has to consider his future at the end of the season.

Matondo has been on the books of Rangers since the summer of 2022, and he has not established himself as a regular in the first team.

The 23-year-old Wales international winger made nine starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership table last season. He scored four goals in those games.

The youngster has made seven starts and 10 substitute appearances in the league for the Gers this season. He has scored five goals and given three assists in those games.

Yes, I understand that Matondo is only 23 now and is still young, but to progress and develop his game, he needs to play regularly and has to start week in and week out.

If Matondo does not get that at Rangers, then I think that the winger to at least consider his options in the summer transfer window.
